Asif, Zahid shine for Lahore

LAHORE, June 29: An unbroken second wicket partnership between Asif Ghafoor and opener Zahid Nazir of 103 runs and fine bowling by off-spinner Tanveer Yaqoob helped Lahore Region beat Sialkot Region by nine wickets in the PCB national school cricket tournament at Saga Ground, Sialkot on Wednesday.

Asif remained unbeaten on 37-ball 53 (eight fours, two sixes) while Zahid made 40 off 32-ball as Lahore Region raced to the winning target of 108 in 11.5 overs for the loss of one wicket with 19.1 overs to spare.

Batting first, Sialkot were all out for a meagre total of 107 in 28.1 overs due to telling speall by Tanveer who snared four wickets for 20 runs in 5.1 overs.

Only Usman Butt’s sparkling knock of 83-ball 61 studded with eight fours was the significant feature of Sialkot’s innings.
