KARACHI: The security and anti-corruption director of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), retired Col Mohammad Azam Khan, stepped down from his post just about a month to the Pakistan Super League.

However, the PCB is upbeat to run the relevant affairs smoothly until Azam’s permanent replacement is hired.

“At the moment, retired Lt Col Asif Mahmood has been hired as a consultant to ensure we continue to work smoothly until the appointment of the permanent security and ACU director,” a PCB official said

Azam, who tendered his resignation on Friday, held the PCB position during the 2017 PSL spot-fixing scandal, after which five cricketers — Khalid Latif, Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Nasir Jamshed and Shahzaib Hasan — were penalised.

“The new director security will be appointed through a proper recruitment process, details of which will be announced in due course,” the PCB official concluded.
