PESHAWAR, June 29: An accountability court here on Wednesday convicted a former secretary of Local Council Board, Laiq Khan, of corruption and sentenced him to four years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs5.62 million. The court presided over by Attaullah Khan also forfeited five plots owned by the convict and his family members.

The court observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused.

The National Accountability Bureau had filed a reference against Laiq Khan, charging him possessing movable and immovable properties disproportionate to his known sources of income.

He was arrested in July 2001 and a reference of Rs55 million was filed against him.
