LAHORE, June 29: The husband of a minister in the Punjab cabinet has been denied membership of the PPP because of the political affiliation of the wife. Father Rufin Julius did not qualify for the PPP membership, party’s secretary-general Jehangir Badr said after a meeting of the Lahore Coordination Committee here on Wednesday.
The Christian leader from Gujranwala had joined the party recently. His wife, Joyce Rufin Julius, is the provincial minister for minorities.
The LCC meeting was presided over by Khalid Kharal while Jehangir Badr, Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan, Altaf Qureshi, Munawwar Anjum and others participated.
According to Mr Badr, the meeting also decided to observe July 5 as a black day. This was the day when in 1977 Gen Zia had overthrown the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Instructions have been issued to the party organization to observe the black day. — Staff Reporter
