ISLAMABAD, June 28: Pakistan’s export of textile products increased by 4.90 per cent to $7.627 billion during the 11 months (July-May) period of the current fiscal year, as against $7.271 billion during the same period last year.

Official figures released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) here on Tuesday showed that in an absolute term the total value of exportable products stood at $12.879 billion during the period under review, as against $11.064 billion over the same period last year, indicating an overall increase of 16.4 per cent.

Exports of non-textile commodities and products stood at $5.25 billion during the July-May period of the current fiscal year, as against $3.792 billion during the same period last year, showing an increase of 38.5 per cent.

The analysis of textile statistics showed that the total value of textile export products increased by 9.363 per cent to $3.761 billion during the first five months of the quota-free regime this year, as against $3.439 billion during the same period last year.

The product-wise analysis showed that exports of readymade garments registered a growth of 36.08 per cent during the first five months (January-May) to $553.753bn as compared to $406.909 billion during the same period last year. The export of readymade garments registered a growth of only 9.88 per cent during the July-May period, over the same period last year.

The export of bedwear stood at $680.059 million during the period under review, as against $603.824 million over the same period last year, showing an increase of 12.62 per cent; towels exports stood at $222.761 million, as against $141.662m, indicating an increase of 57.24 per cent.

The export of cotton cloth increased by 19.65 per cent to $921.007 million during the Jan-May period, as against $769.697 million during the same period last year; 3.27 per cent growth was registered in the export of tents, canvas and tarpaulin, which stood at $33.549 million this year as against $32.484 million during the same period last year.

Moreover, the export of made-up articles registered a growth of 14.266 per cent during the Jan-May period this year as it stood at $195.469 million as compared to $167.583 million during the same period last year.

The export of cotton yarn declined by 9.53 per cent to $474.686 million during the Jan-May period as compared to $524.7 million last year.

However, the export of cotton yarn registered a growth of 16.89 per cent during May 2005, over the same month last year. The export of knitwear declined by 4.682 per cent to $568.827 million during the same period this year as compared to $596.769 million of the corresponding year.

Similarly, the export of art, silk and synthetic textile registered a fall of 25.99pc during the first five months this year, as it stood at $112.233m against $151.656 million during the same period last year.
