ISLAMABAD: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad has sealed Mega Zone, an entertainment facility in Fatima Jinnah Park.

Mega Zone’s lease agreement expired three years ago, but the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) sealed the facility on Friday.

The facility houses a bowling alley, a pool, laser tag, arcade games and a café.

Chief Metropolitan Officer Syed Najaf Iqbal told Dawn Mega Zone’s lease expired in 2015.

For the last three years the facility was running on stay orders, which were vacated last week.

Mr Iqbal said the MCI will auction the land at a later stage after a competitive process.

The property was sealed by the DMA, led by director Zafar Iqbal, who said the MCI would conduct a new auction for the land to generate revenue, as the facility has great potential.

The CDA had leased more than three acres in F-9 Park for an entertainment facility that later turned into one of the main attractions for visitors in the park, particularly on weekends.

After the MCI was formed and the F-9 Park was devolved to it, sources in the MCI said according to the terms and conditions the corporation was not bound to extending the lease.

“The 20-year lease expired in 2015. Though there was mention in the lease agreement that it could be extended for another 20 years with the mutual consent of both parties, we are not going to extend the lease. That is why we vigorously contested our cause in court and won,” an MCI official said.
