LAHORE: Three-year-old colts Al Akbar and Dangal reigned supreme in The Jinnah Cup and The Winter Cup respectively as favourites swept a nine-race card in the Lahore winter meeting at the Racecourse on Saturday.

Al Akbar stretched his unbeaten run by getting the better of Goleke Queen by 4¾ lengths to present owner Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud with a fabulous repeat performance under eminent jockey Aamir Pervez. The victorious horses clocked one minute 40 2/5 seconds for the 1,600 metres term race for three-year-old horses.

The victorious horse was sent by former rider-turned-trainer Shahid Rehman. The latter is also a recipient of Pride of Performance.

Fabulous One was placed third beaten by two lengths with Big Act completing the frame further a length and a quarter away.

Last Dance could not make it to the Jinnah Cup leaving six horses in fray.

Dangal, who was among those who also ran in his last outing, atoned to the loss winning as he pleased by eight lengths over Salam-e-Dera to oblige all and sundry including co-owners Rehan Bukhari and Asif Inayat.

Ridden by Tahir Abbas the victorious horse was partnered by trained Amjad Ali II.

Simba and Mighty Wings occupied third and fourth places on board.

Three riders — Dinar Mirwani, Ghulam Haider and Tahir Abbas — excelled in their cadres by piloting home a brace of winners while trainers Khawaja Qamar Hameed and Amjad Ali II also completed a double.

Besides Last Dance, Race Da Prince (first race), Mehmoor Prince (second race), Sarai Norang (fourth race) and High On Life (fifth race) were scratched before the races.

Meanwhile, the next meeting will be held on Thursday (Dec 27).
