SIALKOT: The Pasrur Municipal Committee chairman and vice chairman are facing no-confidence move initiated by the opposition, as the local government department has fixed Dec 22 for holding a special session of the municipal house for the purpose.

The date was fixed after opposition submitted a requisition having signatures of 26 councillors, out of total 34, to the local government Sialkot deputy director for convening the MC’s special session.

The opposition has also demanded that Pasrur MC chairman Chaudhry Altaf Shafi and vice chairman Mehar Muhammad Yaseen should resign from their offices if they want to avoid the ignominy of being ousted through a no-confidence vote.

Both the the chairman and his deputy belong to the group of former MPA Chaudhry Munawar Ali Gill, who was was denied the PML-N ticket for PP-40 (Sialkot) by the party leadership in July 25 poll.

However, Mr Gill had contested the general elections as an independent candidate from Pasrur city’s both national and provincial assembly constituencies against the PML-N’s Ali Zahid Hamid and Rana Muhammad Afzal, respectively. Gill was defeated by the PML-N candidates on both the seats by a huge margin.

Now, the Pasrur MC opposition is being backed by the MNA Ali Zahid, son of former federal minister Zahid Hamid and MPA Rana Muhammad Afzal.

Observers of local politics predict success of the no confidence move as opposition enjoy support of 26 out of 34 members of the house.
