KARACHI: Sharmeen Khan, former Pakistan women’s cricket team player and one of the pioneers of women’s cricket in the country, passed away in Lahore on Wednesday.
Her sister Shaiza Khan said that 46-year old Sharmeen, who died of pneumonia, had been laid to rest at a DHA graveyard in Lahore on Wednesday.
Sharmeen, along with her sister Shaiza launched the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Control Association (PWCCA) in the mid-90s. Shaiza later became the captain of the first Pakistan women’s cricket team.
Sharmeen was a right-arm medium fast bowler who represented Pakistan in two Tests and 26 One-day International matches, capturing five and 20 wickets to her credit respectively.
