LAHORE: The Provincial Government has decided that the Provincial Food Department, in addition to its heavy duty of sugar distribution through ration depots, will act as a supervising agency to see whether flour mill owners are fulfilling their commitments about the sale of atta at cheap rates fixed by the Government, it is authentically learnt.

The decision has been taken by the Provincial Government in consultation with prominent public representatives of various regions of the Province who had urged the Government to watch the atta market trend to ensure that atta is supplied to the poor people at cheap rates.

The Provincial Government, which had taken concrete steps to reduce atta prices has decided in principle to vigilantly watch the rates and the quality of atta to be supplied to the consumers by our mill owners. According to a plan under the consideration of the Government, the Food Inspectors and supervisor will be required to submit weekly reports to the relevant District Food Controllers on the prices being charged and quantity of atta being sold in the market.

The Government is firmly determined to arrange the supply of atta at reduced prices to the consumer and has also decided to go to the extent of imposing partial rationing of atta if the commitment made by the flour mills is not honoured fully.
