KOHAT: The cantonment police seized explosives and weapons and arrested two suspects in Kaghazai area here on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team raided a house in Kaghazai and recovered 25 kilogrammes of explosives, 20 detonators, nails, bullets and four hand grenades. The arrested people were named Dil Nawaz, a local, and Sada Khan of Darra Adamkhel.
They were produced before a judge who remanded them into police custody for 14 days. A Kalashnikov, two pistols and 190 cartridges were also recovered from them.
A case was registered against them under the Anti Terrorism Act in the cantonment police.
Meanwhile, the police on Tuesday destroyed firecrackers worth Rs5 million recovered from a truck going to Karachi from Karkhano market of Peshawar at the Friendship tunnel toll plaza here.
ASP Saddar circle Mohammad Nabeel Khokhar told journalists that the personnel of Mohammad Riaz Saheed police station stopped a truck and seized the firecrackers, including marriage bombs and crackers being smuggled to Karachi.
Two carriers - Suleman Khan of Nowshera and Anas Shehzad of Karachi - were held and produced before a judge, who ordered destruction of the seized firecrackers.
