MANSEHRA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will field a unanimous candidate in the by-election to recapture the PK-30 seat, said former federal minister Sardar Mohammad Yousuf while talking to mediapersons after the party’s consultative meeting in Balakot on Sunday.

“We are united and will field a unanimous candidate to win the seat with a majority,” he claimed. The seat had fallen vacant after its MPA, Mian Ziaur Rehman, was disqualified by the apex court in a fake degree case last month.

Mr Yousuf said that PML-N still had roots among masses in the country, particularly in Hazara division. Speaking on the occasion, Ziaur Rehman said that he had won the seat in the general elections earlier this year and claimed that his party would repeat its performance in the by-polls.

Former federal minister and divisional president of Pakistan Peoples Party Ahmad Hussain Shah, who had lost to Mr Rehman, joined Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf last week after Chief Minister Mahmood Khan hinted at giving him the ticket for by-election. The Election Commission of Pakistan is expected to announce schedule for the by-election in PK-30 within a couple of days.

ARRESTED: Police arrested a peddler and seized two kilogrammes of charas from his possession here on Sunday.

A police party led by SHO Shafiqur Rehman arrested one Abdul Sattar during a raid on a house in Khaki and seized over two kilogrammes of charas, according to a police statement. It said that an operation against narcotics peddlers was underway across the district.
