KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday set aside a death sentence awarded to a man by a trial court in a murder case.

An additional district and sessions court (Malir) had sentenced Yusuf Barni to death in November 2016 after finding him guilty of killing his colleague and roommate Mukhtar Ahmed over a monetary dispute in November 2011 in an Ibrahim Haideri locality.

The convict had challenged the capital punishment before the SHC and after hearing both sides and examining the evidence, a two-judge appellant bench of SHC headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto allowed the appeal and set aside the verdict of the trial court.

The bench also directed to send the copy of the judgement to the trial court for guideline and record.

According to the prosecution, the factory workers, Ahmed and Barni, resided in a rented room along with two others and Barni allegedly stabbed the victim to death.
