KOHAT: The oversight committee of district administration here has resolved the problem of shortage of medicines and water in the district prison by providing medicines and water tanks on voluntary basis keeping in view shortage of jail budget.

A member of the oversight committee, Dr Naseem Jan, bought six water tanks from his own pocket and gave them to the jail authorities after taking notice during his last visit. Assistant commissioner Abdur Rehman handed over a package of medicines which were in short supply in the jail hospital. The district health officer had arranged the medicines from his own budget.

The committee formed by the deputy commissioner had visited the prison last week. The prisoners and the doctor had told it that medicines were not available in the hospital and the water tank was not sufficient to supply clean water while the jail authorities had no budget for it.

The prisoners also complained that the doctor skipped duty and the dispenser gave medicines to the seriously sick patients.

When contacted, an official, Rashid Bokhari, said that the district health officer had set a roaster for visit of doctors who were sent from different BHUs and RHCs on daily basis.

He said that only a dispenser and lady health visitor were on the jail strength and the post of doctor was lying vacant for the last one year.

DISPUTE RESOLVED: The dispute resolution council here on Thursday resolved a 20 years old case concerning property and cash and distributed the same between real owners with mutual consent.

In this regard, a meeting of jury was held at DRC hall which was attended by DPO Wahid Mehmood and both the parties whereas DIG Kohat was the chief guest. They said that the dispute concerned ownership of four houses, 12 shops and Rs8 million.

One Irfanullah had complained that Saleem Khan had forcibly occupied his property in Mohammadzai. After the hearing, keys of four houses and 12 shops were given to Irfanullah. It was learnt that Irfanullah owed Rs8 million to Saleem Khan which were handed over to him.

The DIG said on the occasion that the DRC operated under legal cover and provided relief without any cost.
