DELHI: Nawabzada Liaqat Ali Khan, Hony. Secretary, All-India Muslim League, has issued the following statement to the Press:-

“My attention has been drawn to certain remarks which Mrs. Rajan Nehru, Secretary, Delhi Women’s League, made during the course of her speech at a public meeting held in Diwan Hall on Friday, November 5, in connection with famine conditions in Bengal, and which was published in the “Hindustan Times” dated November 6. She is reported to have stated that the Muslim League was introducing communalism even in relief work…. I am afraid Mrs. Nehru has been ill-served by those who supplied her this information which is absolutely incorrect, if not malicious … In response to the appeal of the President of the All-India Muslim League, Mussalmans from all over India have been sending their contributions in cash and in kind to the Muslim Chamber of Commerce, Calcutta, which has opened a number of free kitchens for the distribution of gruel and milk to children and to feeding mothers.… As a matter of fact, one of the bright spots in the dark tragedy of Bengal is the non-communal nature of relief that is being given by the various organisations … and the friendly co-operation that exists between them.…”
