LAHORE: A Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench on Thursday issued notices to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) authorities on a petition filed by former vice chancellor of Punjab University, Dr Mujahid Kamran, challenging his arrest and inquiry initiated against him.

The bench headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi heard the petition.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel submitted though his client had nothing to do with the allegations levelled against him, NAB arrested him. He implored the warrant issued for his arrest was also illegal and unlawful which needed to be quashed.

He said the administrative judge sent Dr Kamran on physical and judicial remand illegally and the petitioner was liable to be discharged of the case.

He requested the court to release the petitioner by granting him a post-arrest bail as the entire case against him was illegal, void, without lawful authority, of no legal effect and no further inquiry.

After hearing initial arguments, the bench issued notices to NAB authorities for November 7, and sought a reply.
