PM Khan meets Iran's foreign minister to discuss 'key issues'

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif met in Islamabad on Wednesday to discuss issues of mutual interest, Radio Pakistan reported.

This was Zarif's second visit to Pakistan in two months.

According to Radio Pakistan, among the host of issues discussed, the two leaders also deliberated on the recovery of 12 Iranian border security guards kidnapped by militants a fortnight ago from a post in Iran's Mirjaveh region close to the Balochistan border.

Jaish al-Adl, a terrorist group operating in the region, has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. Iranian leaders believe that the kidnappers transferred the guards to Pakistan after taking them hostage.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had welcomed his Irani counterpart to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to a tweet shared by the Government of Pakistan, the two discussed "issues of mutual interest, including ways to enhance cooperation".

Must revive RCD spirit between the three countries. Pakistan, Iran and Turkey. Afghanistan can be the fourth partner. We should be strengthening ties regionally regardless of the external/international pressures.

Iran and pakistan have close ties for decades. It is the second visit of any iranian official to pakistan since the new democratic government. Recently some security officers were allegedly kidnapped by militants and try to retreive them safely as the militants claimed responsibility. Iran seeks pakistan's support in this regard. Shah mahmood welcomed his counterpart in the country and they discussed the mutual interest issues and promised to extend the cooperation

Iran Pak and Turkey are the most strong & stable nations in the region. This is the time to revive RCD ( Regional Cooperation Development) with renewed Declaration that no outside interference be allowed in the region, and the disputes or differences be settled by nations themselves through dialogue.

@Anwar Yes, but insist on friendship with Iran regardless of what any one says. There were only two countries that helped Pakistan when the country was at war...Iran adn Indonesia...no one else helped...
