LAHORE, Jan 10: The Punjab Adhoc Public Accounts Committee has directed the Local Government and Rural Development Department to submit a report on misuse of funds released for the construction of community centres.

The committee, which met at the Punjab Assembly Chambers here with Riaz Husain Bokhari in the chair, issued the directive on being informed that the funds released for the construction of a community centre in Gujranwala had been used to build a palatial house on private land at a cost of Rs3.6 million while only Rs1.81 million had been sanctioned for the purpose.

The committee directed the department to pursue the corruption case against its district assistant director involved in the purchase of sub-standard bitumen worth Rs1.439 million without maintaining the record.

A directive was also issued for holding accountable the officials responsible for causing a loss of Rs2.619 million to the exchequer by accepting the tenders for a development project in Multan without meeting the prescribed formalities.

The committee also ordered presentation of a detailed report on unlawful allocation of Rs25.2 million for the construction of school buildings in Mianwali in violation of rules and the orders of the Education Department secretary.
