LAHORE, Jan 10: The Punjab government on Thursday got vacated 25 per cent beds in hospitals in Lahore, Chunian and Kasur to meet any eventuality.

“The beds have been reserved for the armed forces, Punjab Health Secretary Hasan Wasim Afzal told Dawn by telephone.

He said all government hospitals in Lahore, Kasur and Chunian had also been asked to make special duty rosters of doctors and nursing and paramedical staff, besides keeping surgical instruments and other necessary equipment like ambulances ready to meet any eventuality.

He said storage of adequate and necessary medicines and blood had also been ensured, adding that the government had received the compliance report.

The health secretary said all hospitals in the province had earlier been asked to reserve 25 per cent of their beds for emergency and keep everything ready for the purpose.

The total strength of beds in all government hospitals in the province is 44,000 and the government has got vacated 2,000 of them in the three cities.

EDO: One hundred and fifty emergency centres have been set up in the provincial metropolis to provide immediate medical treatment to the victims in the event of a war, says the executive district officer (Health).

Besides, 40 mobile units, too, had been reserved for the purpose, he added.
