ISLAMABAD: As many as nine patients tested positive for dengue in the federal capital, the Islamabad district administration said on Saturday.

According to a document of the district administration, out of the nine patients seven were men and two women.

They are from Bhara Kahu, Ishfaq Colony, Tarnol, G-7, Khanna Dak and Rawal Town.

Talking to Dawn, Dr Waseem Khawaja of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) said it was a fact that majority of dengue patients did not come to hospitals for treatment as most of them were not aware of the disease.

“Cleanliness is the prerequisite to avoid dengue so people should keep their houses clean,” he said.

Dr Khawaja advised citizens not to leave fresh water uncovered in their house as the dengue mosquito laid eggs there.

“However, by next month when the temperature drops to freezing point, the mosquito will not survive and the dengue issue will come to an end,” he said.

“Moreover if people have fever and feel pain in the abdomen they should only take paracetamol rather than other medication,” Dr Khawaja suggested.
