QUETTA: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Balochistan, on Friday dispatched relief goods to the drought-hit areas of Chagai district. Relief goods — including food items, blankets and tents — were sent to provide relief to the people hit by the drought, provincial Home Minister Mir Saleem Ahmed Khosa said.

Briefing the media, he said that Quetta and northern parts of the province were facing drought-like situation because there had been no rain and snowfall since long.

“Large population of northern and western parts of Balochistan are badly affected due to the dry spell,” Mr Khosa said, adding the government will send relief goods to all such places.

He said the government will not leave drought-hit people alone in this difficult time.

Survey to assess the loss of people in terms of cattle, camels and livestock will be conducted, he said, adding that the PDMA and district administration were monitoring the relief operation being carried out in Chagai and other regions.

The Chagai deputy commissioner on Wednesday called for immediate assistance, while informing about the worsening situation in the district. He said drought was rapidly griping areas close the Pak-Iran border as around 7,000 families were directly affected by the drought.
