DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Unknown attackers shot dead a police constable in the Zaffarabad road area in the limits of town police station here on Monday morning.

Head constable Mohammad Nadeem was coming for duty at the court of judicial magistrate-II on a motorcycle. But when he reached Zaffarabad three armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. The attackers managed to escape.

District police officer Zahoor Babar Afridi along with a police contingent reached the spot. The police cordoned off the area and started search operation.

The police also recovered empty covers of bullets and other evidence from the scene of the occurrence.

Later, his body was brought to the police lines where his funeral prayer was offered.

Army’s station commander Brig Rao Sartaj, the DPO, deputy commissioner Nauman Afzal Afridi and others attended the funeral. He was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard later in the day.

CTD police registered case against unknown assailants and started investigation.
