GUJRAT, June 16: The Baghbanpura police have obtained a three-day physical remand of ex-Kharian tehsil nazim Nadeem Asghar Kaira in an abduction case registered against him on the complaint of Mian Idrees of Bekanawala. Mian Idrees, a naib nazim of Jani Chak union council, Kharian and a close relative of former provincial minister Mian Tariq Mahmood, is also a complainant in another case against Nadeem Kaira lodged with the anti-corruption establishment about two years ago.

The Baghbanpura FIR said Mian Idrees, his servant Shah Nawaz and others were returning home by a car (GTB-2888) after appearing before an ACE court when Nadeem Kaira and his four unidentified accomplices intercepted them at a place in Gujranwala on June 13. They dragged Shah Nawaz out of the car, bundled him into their Land Cruiser (Kaira-1) and escaped, the complainant alleged.

The ex-tehsil nazim is a nominated accused in three FIRs. The first FIR No. 4 was lodged against him on the complaint of Mian Idrees on charges of abuse of power with ACE on Feb 5, 2003. The second FIR No. 68 was lodged against him and others with Kharian cantonment police on the complaint of SHO Ghulam Jaffar Cheena on April 14, 2005. Complainant Cheena alleged that Mr Kaira and others attacked the police station and beat him up in a bid to get released PPP office-bearer Zia. Nadeem Kaira was later declared a court absconder by an anti-terrorism court in the case.

The provincial local government secretary had sacked Mr Kaira owing to his permanent disappearance from his office. Later, the LHC had granted him interim bail.

The third case was now registered against him with Baghbanpura police station.
