KARACHI, June 16: The talks between the Sindh government and the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum failed when the PFF leaders found a number of contractors and certain persons introduced as the leaders of fishing community at the meeting on Wednesday.

The PFF was invited to attend an official meeting, convened by Sindh Adviser on Fisheries Faqeer Jadam Mangrio at Sindh Secretariat here along with other leaders of fishing communities.

According to PFF, the government side tried to divide fishermen on regional basis and nominated Abdullah Mallah of Badin for the committee to supervise interests of fishermen in lower Sindh. Whereas a separate committee was formed for fishermen of Upper Sindh.

Meanwhile, PFF has convened a joint meeting of fishermen of entire Sindh at village Sain Dino Mallah in Jamshoro on June 17 to evolve a new strategy against contract system.—PPI
