PESHAWAR, Jan 10: The district government of Lower Dir has decided to establish two small hydel power-houses in collaboration with the private sector for getting cheap electricity, promoting industrial and agricultural sectors and ending loadshedding.

This decision was taken by District Nazim, Dr Mohammad Yaqoob while chairing a meeting of Sarhad Hydel Development Organisation and irrigation department at Timargarah rest-house on Thursday.

The sites for these new dams has been decided as Sadoo and Danawa on river Pajkoora.

Lower Dir has been blessed with lot of water resources and the district government will leave no stone unturned in tapping this natural wealth to benefit the people, the district Nazim said while addressing the meeting.

He also directed the officials concerned to start work for survey, feasibility study and detailed designing of the two power-houses so that the district government could obtain the required fund from the provincial government.

Dr Yaqoob also informed the meeting that the district government had reserved Rs8 million for the construction of small dams. The additional amount would be obtained from the provincial government and through involvement of the private sector, he added.

He said these power-houses would be registered in the name of District Power Company so as to secure their future.

During discussion, the meeting was told that a small power-house costs anywhere between Rs180 and Rs200 million. The profit from these investments runs around Rs260 million.

The meeting also allocated Rs2 million for the feasibility study. —APP
