RAWALPINDI: Police are considering replacing dupatta with a ‘scarf’ as part of the uniform for its women officials.

To get opinions about the proposal, Superintendent of Police Amreen Ali called a batch of women officials at her office and showed them images four different samples of the olive green uniform with the new scarf.

When City Police Officer (CPO) Abbas Ahsan was contacted, he told Dawn that the police were considering replacing the traditional dupatta with the scarf for the women police.

But the olive green uniform will remain unchanged, he added.

The CPO said a majority of women police were in favour of replacing the dupatta with a scarf.

When a woman police officer was asked about the proposal, she said a majority of her colleagues, especially the young recruits, were in favour of replacing the dupatta with a scarf.

However, she said, her senior colleagues did not want to replace the dupatta.

“I think it would be appealing to wear the scarf. It may be with a V-shape strip,” she said.

In 2017, the Punjab police replaced its old khaki uniform with the new dark olive green uniform.

All police officers were given two uniform kits, consisting of two pairs of trousers, two shirts, two round-neck shirts, a belt and badges.

But they were asked to use the shoes provided to them with the old uniform.
