Disney to undo ‘lightening’ of Princess Tiana’s skin

Advocacy group Colour of Change have revealed Disney have agreed to restore Tiana to her original depiction for Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck It Ralph 2

Recently, eager film fans were given their first look at the Wreck-It Ralph sequel, which will feature all of the Disney princesses together for the very first time.

Everyone, from Cinderella to Moana, are set to appear in the movie and people were overjoyed.

However, on closer inspection, there was one thing about the scene that really bothered people. And that was the colour of Princess Tiana’ skin.

Tiana, the star of the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog, was Disney’s first black princess and is celebrated for bringing diversity to the Disney world. So people were unimpressed when it appeared the character’s skin had been ‘lightened’ in the new movie.

Disney was quickly accused of ‘reinforcing colourism’ and giving Tiana ‘Eurocentric features’ by slimming down her nose and altering her hair. Following this backlash, the company have now promised to undo the lightening of her skin and have redrawn her in the film.

Portlandia co-creator to direct Sesame Street movie

According to reports, Jonathan Krisel will direct the live-action Sesame Street feature for Warner Bros. Shawn Levy and Michael Aguilar will produce the film, which will reportedly be a musical.

Mike Rosolio (American Vandal) wrote the first draft of Sesame Street, with Chris Galletta (The Kings of Summer) having written the most recent draft.

This marks the first movement on the film since the announcement back in 2016 that the project had moved from Fox to Warner Bros. Krisel has received three Emmy nominations for directing Portlandia.

Sesame Street, which first premiered in 1969, moved from its former home at PBS to HBO just a few years ago following a new deal between Sesame Workshop and the cable network. It was at this time that the rights reverted to Warner Bros. and Levy, who has been working on developing the beloved property into a film since 2012.

Daniel Craig is back as Bond

Daniel Craig has confirmed he will indeed be playing the titular spy 007 for the 25th film in the franchise and Cary Joji Fukunaga will take over as director from Danny Boyle, who announced his resignation from James Bond films earlier this year.

A tweet posted to the official James Bond account revealed: “Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig announced today that #Bond25 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios on 4 March 2019 under the helm of director, Cary Joji Fukunaga, with a worldwide release date of 14 February 2020.”

Danny — who orchestrated the 2012 London Olympic Games opening ceremony — stepped down as director in August, citing “creative differences”.

World’s most expensive shoes

The world’s most expensive shoes have just gone on sale and you won’t believe how much they cost -- a whopping $17million, which is about £13million!

Created by UAE-based Jada Dubai, the striking pair of heels, called the ‘Passion Diamond’ shoes, are made from silk, gold patent leather and are embellished with 236 diamonds provided by Passion Jewellers.

If that weren’t decadent enough, they also featuring a 15 carat flawless D diamond at the tip of each shoe and real gold labels inside!

Those who order the pricey footwear will have a bespoke pair made especially for them, but for now a prototype, which took nine months to make, has gone on display at the world’s only seven-star hotel, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

Before the release of the Passion Diamond shoes, the most expensive pair of shoes in the world were previously made by UK designer Debbie Wingham and cost £11.5million.
