KOHAT: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kohat region, Mohammad Ijaz has said that the administrative setup urgently needs 1,000 personnel for its operational police force keeping in view the increasing ratio of crimes and location of Kohat.

Addressing a press conference at Kohat Press Club on Wednesday, he said that the police were trying to deliver within their limited resources, but for achieving good results the appointment of needed workforce was a must because Kohat was surrounded from all sides by tribal areas and the Darra Adamkhel, Orakzai, Kurram and Waziristan’s borders were in close proximity.

The DIG urged the local mediapersons to create awareness among people of using the police access service system for solution of their problems. He said the facility of reporting was available on mobile No 03333510404 and the people could lodge complaints through text message about any criminal activity.

Sale of substandard foodstuff near schools banned

He said that community policing was being promoted and services of elders had been hired to solve the cases of petty nature at the police station level.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner banned under section 144 CrPC sale and transportation of substandard foodstuff, especially in front of schools, and ordered closure of all such factories.

He said that unhealthy ice cream, beverages, chips and cold drinks were being sold throughout the district and tribal subdivision of Darra Adamkhel.

He said that the businesses should be immediately wounded up in shops located in front of schools. According toa handout issued on Wednesday, this order shall come into force with immediate effect for a period of 60 days.

NCP VEHICLES: The tribal administration of Darra Adamkhel has said that tribesmen have been allowed to use non-custom paid (NCP) vehicles for a period of five years after which they will be impounded while the weapons business will also be regularised.

An official of the administration, Azam Khan said on Wednesday that so far no decision had been taken about the weapon industry, but the matter was being discussed by the interior ministry and home department.

He said that there would be ban on drug smuggling and sale in the bazaars which had been enforced with immediate effect.

Answering a question, he said that the weapon manufacturing might be legalised like Gadoon Amazai with exemption of tax, but the weapons could only be sold on receipt and showing of licence.
