ISLAMABAD: Former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday rejected allegations that his son, daughter and son-in-law were involved in the Eden Housing scam.

Federal Minister for Information and Broad­casting Fawad Hussain Chaudhry a day earlier announced that the ex-CJP’s son-in-law, Dr Amjad Murtaza, had been taken into custody by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Dubai in connection with the housing scam.

The minister also said that the ex-CJP’s son and daughter were also ‘partner in crime’ and they might also be apprehended soon.

Talking to reporters here, Iftikhar Chaudhry, who also heads his Justice and Democratic Party, rebutted these allegations and said that his son-in-law had nothing to do with the housing scheme.

He said that a proper legal course would be adopted for Dr Murtaza’s release.

Meanwhile, senior lawyer and spokesperson for Iftikhar Chaudhry’s party Ahsanuddin Sheikh termed the arrest of Dr Murtaza an act of victimisation.

He said that since a candidate of Iftikhar Chaudhry’s party had challenged the eligibility of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman and Prime Minister Imran Khan for holding public office before the July general elections in the country, the PTI government was taking such steps to victimise the ex-CJP.
