MUZAFFARGARH: Two students died and 10 others suffered injuries in a van cylinder explosion at Chowk Qureshi, about 30 kilometres away from the city, on Thursday.

The school van was carrying students back home when its gas cylinder exploded and Hamid and Zain died on the spot while 10 other students including Afia, Zareena, Abeera, Fatima, Uzair, Talha, Zain, Abdullah and Zainab suffered burns.

Five of the injured were shifted to the Nishtar Hospital, Multan, after the DHQ hospital authorities referred them there for want of burn unit.

The deputy commissioner said stern action would be taken against the van owner.

CASE: Police have registered a case against unidentified people who threw a bomb (dud) in the house of a government contractor.

Arif Sohrani, who is working on a mega project, said he had been receiving threats from extortionists for the last six months. On Wednesday, a motorcyclist threw a cracker bomb in his house and he informed DPO Faisal Shahzad who ordered registration of a case.

He said it was the second such attempt on his life in the last one month. The CCTV cameras footage showed that a motorcyclist wearing helmet threw the bomb in the house.

The DPO said he had constituted a team to investigate the case and the suspects would be arrested soon.
