There’s hope still

WHILE we are keen to point out weaknesses and shortcomings of institutions, we do not acknowledge the good work they do. On May 11, 2017, a letter that I wrote on the polo ground mentioned the sad state of neglect that the historic ground had fallen into. I had said that grass had dried up in different spots around the ground. The central pool had come apart and bricks were scattered all around. The Quaid-i-Azam presided over the march past of the athletes who took part in the first national games. According to the late Sabih Mohsin, the contingent also included women athletes.

Until 1961, when the capital was shifted to Islamabad, almost every year, the head of state and members of the cabinet offered Eid prayers there. Later, the Sindh governor and his team continued this practice. The destruction of the Polo Ground is a story of incompetence and neglect of duty.

hours of that letter appearing in print repair work was taken in hand now it has presentable appearance. Whoever is responsible for the facelift should be given a pat on the back. It goes to show all is not gone. There is hope still.
