LAHORE: An inmate convicted in a drug case was allegedly found hanged from the window of a washroom in the Camp Jail under mysterious circumstances here on Saturday.

The inmate, Nadeem Ahmad, was found by his fellow prisoners hanging from the window of the jail washroom.

They immediately informed the jail authorities about his death.

According to jail officials, who sought anonymity, the prisoner committed suicide by hanging himself with a piece of cloth and rope he had already arranged in the jail.

As per a jail source, the incident raised doubts as body of the deceased prisoner bore torture marks.

He added that the height of the washroom ceiling was also low, making it apparently difficult for a man of normal height to hang himself

The source, quoting some inmates, said the deceased had told them that he was subjected to torture by the jail officials and apprehended that he might face the wrath of the officials again.

Punjab Prisons IG refused to comment on the issue, while the local police said the body had been shifted to the city morgue for autopsy.

No press release was issued by the prisons department in this respect till the filing of this report at 10pm.
