KARACHI: In a significant development, Inspector General of Police of Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam on Thursday established a committee to prepare a draft of a new police law on the pattern of Police Act-2002 in Sindh.

This decision was taken at a meeting presided over by the provincial police chief at the Central Police Office. Senior officials attended the meeting.

“The meeting decided to set up a body to prepare draft for a new police act like police act of 2002,” according to a brief statement issued after the meeting.

IG Imam also directed the police officers to prepare recommendations to introduce “alternative dispute resolution mechanism in the Sindh police on the pattern of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police and Islamabad police”.

Administrative affairs of the CPO and other departmental matters also came under deliberations and the IG issued necessary directions and ‘consensus decisions’ were taken, added the police spokesperson.

The IG also issued directions to ensure installation of biometric entry system at the CPO within next 10 days.

It was also decided in the meeting that suggestions would be sought from the Sindh government to increase driving license fee and ticket challans.

He also called for ensuring formal briefing to police officers for overall security and their duty.

He also sought information about pending issues of different units of the CPO and issues related to different departments of the Sindh government.
