LONDON: The death of Mrs Bernard Shaw on Sunday in her London home at Whitehall Court is the greatest blow that George Bernard Shaw has ever received. Tonight under the mask of seeming unemotional Shaw is a heartbroken man and at 87 might not survive such a cruel blow. Shaw will miss his wife wherever a company gathers for she had always sat in the opposite corner chuckling at his quips. She rarely spoke but her eyes revealed her affection and pride in Shaw. Mrs. Shaw was partly responsible for the foundation of the London School of Economics. Her generosity like Bernard Shaw’s was one of her closest secrets says a cable to the ‘Indian Express’.

It is doubtful whether Shaw will allow a public funeral rather than allow a few intimate friends to escort Mrs. Shaw on her last journey.

[Meanwhile, as reported from Dacca,] cholera, which has broken out in rural areas of the district is taking an increasing toll. During the week-ending September 11 there were 268 cases and 148 deaths in rural areas of the district, as against 193 and 123 respectively in the previous weeks.

The preventive measures of the Health Department of the Dacca District Board are being hampered by dearth of anti-cholera vaccines. — Dawn Delhi
