ISLAMABAD: Around 180 people have been apprehended for violating the ban on pillion riding in the capital since Sunday, police said.

The capital administration banned pillion riding in Islamabad as part of its security measures for the first 10 days of Muharram.

Since Sept 12 – Muharram 1 – 397 people riding two-wheelers were arrested in the capital for violating the ban, police said. In addition, 80 cases were registered against those arrested in 15 police stations in the city.

All the individuals were booked under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. They were produced before a magistrate, where they were either fined or sent to jail.

Police said there are two days left until the ban expires. Most of the violations committed since Sunday were in Shahzad Town and Khanna, including the Expressway and its adjacent areas, police said. Shahzad Town police arrested 37 people and booked them in three separate FIRs, while Khanna police arrested 30 people and booked them in four cases.

Secretariat police also arrested 30 people and booked them in three cases, while Golra and Noon police arrested 16 people each and booked them in three and two cases, respectively.

Tarnol police arrested 14 people and booked them in two cases, Nilor police arrested 11 people and booked them in three cases, and Koral and Shams Colony police arrested six people and registered one case each.

Kohsar and Lohi Bher police arrested five people each and booked them in one case and two cases, respectively, while Bhara Kahu police arrested four people and booked them in one case.
