SAHIWAL: Punjab Higher Education Minister Yasir Humayun Sarfraz on Wednesday assured revival of five-tier formula for promotion of college teachers on the pattern of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Talking to a 10-member delegation of Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association which met him at Ministers Enclave, Lahore, he said the government would revive five-tier formula for college teachers promotion on KP pattern, stop pay deduction for 2002, 2005 and 2009 contract lecturers batches, regularise services since joining date and provide incentives to BS four-year college teachers.

He said the government would fill vacancies of board chairmen and introduce financial management courses for college teachers.

Earlier, the PPLA delegation, led by President Hafiq Abdul Khaliq Nadeem and Secretary General Muhammad Shafiq along with executive members, presented their 13-point agenda to the minister.

Mr Sarfraz said: “The higher education department is seriously thinking about introducing structural reforms in college education by taking higher education commission and teachers on board.”

The minister said the erstwhile PML-N government had given Rs20 billion worth of laptops to students but not a single incentive was provided to college teachers.

He said the HED would introduce five-tier promotion formula with the following ratio - senior professor (BS-21) 0.5 per cent, professor (BS -20), 06pc, associate professors (BS-19) 22pc, assistant professors (BS-18) 35pc and lecturers (BS-17) 36.5pc.

He said the formula would empower college teachers to get grade-20 within 30-year span of service structure.
