KARACHI, June 12: Britain will offer Pakistan 240 million pounds over the next three years. This was stated by a British parliamentarian of Pakistani origin, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, in an interview with APP. Mr Sarwar, who is on a visit to Pakistan, said: “We are also working with the local governments in Faisalabad and Peshawar on many projects.”

Mr Sarwar was re-elected to the British parliament recently which now had four MPs of Pakistani origin.

He said there were many people in Pakistan who lived in abject poverty.

There were many who couldn’t buy clothes for their children or pay for tuition fees and books for their wards and there were some who couldn’t even afford to pay for medical treatment of their children, he said.

Mr Sarwar said that poverty and law and order were ‘huge challenges for Pakistan’.

“As a developed nation, we are doing our best to help the developing countries to deal with issues of poverty,” the MP from the UK said.

He said that Pakistan had been in the forefront of tackling the menace of international terrorism, and the international community, the European Union as well as the British government appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in this direction.

Mr Sarwar, however, pointed out that if they wanted to deal with terrorism they would have to deal with the root causes of this menace.

“I genuinely and passionately believe that the terrorism war cannot be won without dealing with two important issues in our world which are global injustice and global poverty,” he commented.
