RAWALPINDI: The early Tuesday cloudburst damaged the main gate of the Islamabad International Airport (IIA) and the shed roof of the vehicle checkpost.

Besides, rainwater penetrated the international export examination hall and the import delivery area.

According to a source, the cloudburst turned the international export examination hall, electric switch room and the import delivery area into a pond.

The source said a report containing pictures and video clips of the rainwater penetration was sent to the project director and other officials concerned.

When contacted, a Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson expressed ignorance about the rainwater entering the hall or any other part of the airport.

A PIA spokesman said the flight operation at the airport remained uninterrupted during the rain. No flight was diverted or delayed, he added.
