KP Assembly Deputy Speaker Mehmood Jan visits a stall at ‘Huner Mela’ held in Peshawar on Monday in connection with 14th Foundation Day celebrations of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University. — White Star

PESHAWAR: Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar organised a handicraft exhibition to mark its 14th Foundation Day here on Monday.

According to a statement, 46 stalls mainly depicting art and culture of different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were established at the ‘Hunar Mela’. The event was jointly organised by the varsity and Limintrex Organisation.

Mehmood Jan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Deputy Speaker, was the chief guest.

The event featured different speeches and tableaus highlighting the role of women and higher education.

Cheques were also distributed among the students under Higher Education Commission’s need-based merit scholarships. Laptops were also were distributed among the students of BS and masters. Moreover, outstanding achievement certificates were distributed among the staff members.

On the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Razia Sultana congratulated the staff, faculty and students and lauded efforts of the PTI government for taking keen interest in providing facilities and infrastructure to the first public sector women university of KP. She said that they were aligned to the vision of Imran Khan and urged him to visit the university.

She asked the government to release funds for construction of sports arena and auditorium.

She also demanded construction of hostel for the staff so that females hailing from far flung areas could reside within the premises of the university.

Mehmood Jan assured of providing maximum facilities to the university in the best possible way.
