KARACHI: City Mayor Wasim Akhtar said on Saturday that work on the installation of street lights on Malir River Causeway (Qayyumabad to Korangi Road) had started and as many as 52 poles had been installed in this regard.

Besides, he said, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation was making all-out efforts to ensure continuous power supply to keep the KMC-run underpasses and causeways lit.

The mayor said this while presiding over a meeting with officials of KMC’s Electrical and Mechanical Department and other departments.

He said that the Malir River Causeway always remained plunged in darkness with no arrangements of street lights, resulting in a surge in traffic accidents and street crime.

The mayor directed the chief engineer of the municipal utility to expedite the installation of street lamps on all 104 KMC-administered roads and streets in the city.

The mayor said that he hoped that the new government would announce a package for the city providing relief to the people.
