LAKKI MARWAT: The police has finalised security plan for Muharram in the district.

In a meeting here the other day, district police officer Asif Gohar said the police would provide foolproof security to participants of mourning processions and congregations in Muharram, while traditional Ashura routes would be scanned with the help of the bomb disposal squad before mourners were allowed to use them.

He said the deployment of policemen on and around procession routes was part of the security plan.

The DPO said policemen would also be deployed on rooftops in Mohallah Sayyedan area for surveillance. He said the police would ask peace committees for help in maintaining law and order, promote peace, harmony and brotherhood, and monitor movement of suspicious people.

He alerted police officials to possible untoward incidents and asked them to deal with troublemakers strictly.

Also in the day, the DPO chaired a meeting in his office to examine the performance of SHOs and investigators posted to police stations and checkposts in the district.

TUBEWELL WATER: The Local Government and Rural Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has asked the local authorities of Lakki Marwat tehsil municipal administration to conduct water quality test of tubewells in Lakki city to ensure provision of clean drinking water to residents of urban locality.

The directives to this effect were issued in the light of recommendations by a provincial official of the local government department who visited the urban locality to examine water, sanitation and hygiene conditions. During the visit, the official had found that the municipal administration carried out chlorination of two overhead water tanks, but the water quality test of 20 drinking water tubewells was not conducted.

The official had also observed that the waste disposal system in Lakki city was not up to the mark, which could cause spread of diseases and contamination of water.
