Holmes limps out of Euro meet

Published June 12, 2005

LONDON, June 11: Britain’s double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes has been forced to withdraw from the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the European Cup match in Portugal on June 17-19 because of an Achilles injury.

“I’m disappointed that I am no longer able to compete with the girls next weekend. My decision is just a precautionary measure following a slight inflammation of my right Achilles,” said Holmes.

“My decision to withdraw is purely because I want to make sure I am right for the rest of the season.”—AFP
