LAHORE: A 13-day theatre festival is under way on full swing at the Alhamra, The Mall.

A good number of people are attending the Alhamra Theatre Festival daily that features stage plays by young and seasoned actors, writers and directors.

On Monday, Zig Zag Production staged Tujh Say Nahi Ho Ga. The play was directed by Syed Hassaan and written by Syed Muhammad Murtaza. It was a light comedy and knitted around an actor who also owns a small production house but cannot find a sponsor to produce a play. The entire cast performed well, while the play comprised many interesting scenes that successfully expressed the frustration and anxiety of a new actor who, despite all efforts, fails to get the finances for staging a play.

Director Hassaan told Dawn that he studied theatre abroad and stepped into theatrical productions to give a chance to young, talented actors who could not find any other platform.

He hailed Lahore Arts Council for holding the theatre festival for the youth to participate in.

Earlier, Alhamra officials announced that after Muharram they would stage a memorable play by Amjad Islam Amjad. On Tuesday (today) Noratan Productions is set to stage Sanwari.
