LAHORE: The Punjab archives department on Thursday put on display archives indicating fall of the Mughal Empire in 1857 for the first time in its history.

Entitled “The Hollow Crown”, the exhibition was held at the Anarkali’s Tomb. It will continue till Sept 1.

The archives are about the beginning of, what the British India termed, mutiny at Meerut, sepoys march to Delhi, declaration of Bahadar Shah Zafar as the emperor, reassembling of the British troops from Lahore and their advance towards Delhi, massacre of British women and children in Delhi, occupation of Delhi by the British army, arrest of the royal family from the tomb of Humayun, trial of the king and execution of his sons and final order of the British India on the questions of the responsibility to guarantee the lives of the king and his family.
