Chinese envoy calls on Foreign Minister Qureshi

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing on Monday called on Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

A statement issued by the Foreign Office said that the two leaders discussed matters related to mutual interest, and Ambassador Jing reiterated his government's desire to work closely with the new government.

Qureshi, on the other hand, praised Chinese President Xi Jinping's vision for China's socio-economic development. He said Pakistan could learn a lot from China's experience in the sector, especially in the field of agriculture.

The foreign minister also expressed his eagerness to welcome State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Pakistan in September.

The foreign minister looked forward to an in-depth exchange of views with his Chinese counterpart on all matters of mutual interest, the statement added.

How can Pakistan can learn anything when the Chinese insist on bringing their own labour and materials on projects. Most countries insist on technology transfer but Pakistani leaders only care about their commissions! Pakistan will sink unless all the contracts are renegotiated to international standard. When you sign a loan from a bank, at least you see the money until you spend it. With Chinese you only see the loan and interest that has to repaid every term, money goes to the Chinese contractors. Shame,

Chinese started putting pressure on Govt not to disclose the terms of ambiguous CPEC before IMF of make it public as Pak people are demanding for disclosure. Also Pompeo visit is in next month regarding the same matter. Pak specially IK govt wants loan from IMF which requires disclosure of the CPEC terms debt amount etc. Chinese fear that IK may opt to disclose it.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi must inform Chinese Envoy about excessive buying of CPEC project goods from China, which put Pak in adverse position in foreign exchange reserves.
