PM Imran Khan offers humanitarian assistance for people in India's flood-hit Kerala state

Prime Minister Imran Khan, on behalf of people of Pakistan, on Thursday offered to provide humanitarian assistance in the wake of devastating floods in the Indian state of Kerala.
The premier said this as he extended “prayers and best wishes to those who have been devastated by the floods in Kerala, India”.
Meanwhile, more than 1.3 million people have now been packed into temporary camps in Kerala as more people entered relief camps to escape the devastation carried out by the floods, which have left at least 420 dead and missing so far, are fast receding.
Earlier in the day, the leaders of flood-stricken Kerala state angrily hit out at India's national government for rejecting a $100 million aid offer from the United Arab Emirates.
The New Delhi government infuriated the Kerala administration by rejecting the cash offer from the wealthy Gulf state.
About 50,000 homes have been destroyed, according to one Kerala legislator, and people are flocking to the camps as the scale of the desolation is revealed by receding waters.
A total of 1,028,000 people were now recorded in about 3,200 relief camps across the state.

My message to Indians: We know your GDP is larger than ours. You ate richer than us. You don't need our assistance at all. But don't interpret this gesture negatively. Our PM is offering this help knowing everything, therefore, it is purely motivated by our good-will and positivity. I will highly recommend Indian govt. to ask for some technical help from Pakistan concerning the latter's exposure to such events. This will break so many negatives and conspiracies. We want peace.

India's 2005 Law passed in Parliament prohibits any Foreign aid for any type or form of disaster.So rejection of such offer is in accordance of Indian Law. Only people of Indian origin can donate money for flood relief.

@Attaullah - Please note - Even as the UAE has offered Rs 700 crore as flood relief for Kerala, the Indian government is going by the disaster aid policy set in December 2004 by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Government sources said that when the tsunami hit India in December 2004, that was the “watershed moment” for India’s disaster aid policy. “We are following the policy since 2004, and have been turning down assistance from foreign governments since then. In Kerala also, we are sticking to that policy,” a government source told The Indian Express.

I think the reason that Indian govt is not accepting the money from any foreign government is because they want to shed off the image of poor/dependent country which I dont totally disagree with. There are those who are criticizing the Indian Gov for rejecting the aid from UAE but I tend to like the narrative of the Indian Gov. I think they want to send the message to the world that India is not a third world country anymore whereby it require foreign aid to deal with such events. It is the kind of brand Indian Gov wish to build. I am not an Indian but if I was an Indian, I will be very proud of my Government for such a bold decision. In the past I have said many things about the Indian Gov but this time I tend to like their stance.

I had tears in my eyes while looking at the pitiable condition of men, women, and children in the aftermath of these floods. The Indian government has been sufficiently exposed . I never thought there is such a big flop in disaster management in the so called 'Democracy' where people are so hopelessly unprotected.It is shameful, inhuman and insulting to the one like me born in India in 1938.

Praying for the affectees of Kerela and our deepested condolences to those who lost their loved ones and their property during such a traumatic event.
However, for all those who are mocking Pakistan for making a genuine and a sincere offer to help should know that while we are under IMF debt, its our PM Imran Khan who has such a massive public support that upon his appeal to generate funds, the entire nation will stand up to donate. Just in his name. Thats how strong a brand name he is and a brand image he has. He did not take loans to make and 'maintain' state of the art cancer hositals and universities which are still being operated (on countless donations raised through his own efforts and appeals)

@anonymouseee This is politics but needed for the hour. I dont think they will accept this offer or Pakistan is in the position to help other countries right now.

Unfortunately the BJP government in Delhi will not let Pakistan help mostly Kerala flood victims who are mostly Muslims.
