'Bilawal stole the show': PPP chairman's first parliamentary speech impresses Twitterati

Journalists, politicians and general Twitterati were all praise for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari after he delivered his maiden speech in the parliament on Friday.
In his first address to the National Assembly, Bilawal delivered what many considered to be a mature and well-rounded speech that touched on all the necessary points needed to be said.
Senior journalist, Zahid Hussain, lauded Bilawal for delivering "a measured and mature speech in English".
TV anchor, Kashif Abbasi, who was "already impressed with the [young politician's] election campaign" tweeted: "The more I hear his mature speech, the more impressed I am. [He] talk[ed] about problems, talk[ed] about challenges. He is the opposition so he will do some politics also."
PPP Senator Murtaza Wahab was just as impressed with his party leader's "eloquence".
"The nation has seen all 3 leaders speak after the PM election today. While the PM-elect and Shahbaz spoke rhetoric, it was chairman Bilawal who spoke of issues articulately & eloquently. [He was] the only person who spoke of and for the martyrs of elections 2018 too. Here's to a great start."
Popular columnist, Khurram Hussain, also spoke highly of Bilawal's speech, saying:
"Arre wah (Oh wow). Bilawal Bhutto is the most mature member of the National Assembly at the moment."
Journalist Rauf Klasra tweeted the fact that even the PM-elect had no choice but to "appreciate [Bilawal's speech] and thump the desk at the end".
Prominent columnist Nadeem Farooq Paracha was also all praise for the way the first-time parliamentarian conducted himself and the choice of his content.
"Well said @BBhuttoZardari. Excellent speech. No jazbati antics, no reactive rhetoric. Shahbaz should accept what has happened. IK is PM. Period. Also time for IK to come down from the container. A change of tone and words are in order."

Frankly, I didn't find Bilawal's parliamentarian speech exciting, it was indecisive and full of ifs and buts. I say if you want to see real change and process then Imran Khan's government must have full five years term in parliament - give IK time to prove his sincerity, ability and determination to bring a change about for a peaceful and prosperous nation!

Good speech but the populace also needs to get smart and understand that speeches can be written by professional writers. He complained about a number of things in his speech for which PPP and PLM-N are responsible. Good speech but no sincerity. We must judge by deeds, substance, and accomplishments and not just speeches.

Sorry, we will be impressed of Bilawal Zardari when children stop dying of hunger in Tharparkar. When bureaucrats will be accountable to people, not politicians. When institutions of Health and Education will shine. When poor people stop cursing politicians whom they had to vote due to Sardar and Landlords pressure.
For good speeches, youtube and google are awash of all the time. Action in the positive direction and not flowery speeches are required for people of Sindh this time.

Whilst he has certainly made a coherent and articulated maiden speech but he will have to disassociate himself entirely from the wrongdoings of other members of his party and prove to the nation that he is a conviction politician who has the best interests of the masses and the nation at heart and thus he find impossible to do. He will have to come out of the shadows of his father and other senior leadership in the party pretty quickly to create his own space in the party and the country. Life as well politics is a learning curve and it remains to be seen how quickly he adapts to the corruption free agenda of PTI and collaborate and cooperate with the same to achieve a corruption free country. Good luck to him.

It had to be so.Nurtured and bred in an environment that attracts tort for the passing of even mere innuendo can only produce a Bilawal. It couldn't be anything but that. The effect of social environment on an individual is very strong.An elitist school,college or university could perhaps provide a veneer of sophistication and good mannerisms which evaporates once the subject enters the social mainstream. This point was amply proved by the raucous din produced by members of the Parliament. It was a sad and bad spectacle and will be lampooned by the international media to its hearts content.

No doubt he was good but he basically said what Imran khan said in his victory speech. There were no shouting or slogans when Bilawal was talking while it was a completely different atmosphere when khan was addressing.

Better speech, good speech,wonderful speech. Can speeches serve the people, that’s a billion dollars question. Since 70 years the people of Pakistan are enjoying nothing but speeches. Please actions no words, the actions speak for themselves. The proprietary province of PPP is Sindh, have a tour by road, and have a bird’s eye view from heli or plane the truth will emerge, since more than a decade the PPP is incharge of Sindh. And Sindh looks like the abandoned place,the capital of Sindh Karachi the biggest city and economic hub last week declared as 137th in 140 worst livable city. The rural areas today haunted, rarely any picnickers go to places for fishing, sometimes back my friends going from Karachi to Hyderabad via National Hwy stopped for tea a little shabby hotel, they were served with love, but the owner complains about less visiting of Karachiiites, the guys explain the cause, was their own city has no basic amenities, and that they are just suffering there., hence no time.

The number of issues he discussed, his body language, face expression, confidence, none made me realise that he was addressing the parliament for the first time. A very matured, diverse and elegant speech, to say the least.
Shahbaz, on the other hand, denied to make a speech in the name of agitation. Good for him, since we already know that neither

Imran khan has got the chance to prove his words by converting them into practical actions. Whereas, Bilawal must seed some elements of maturity in his father's mind. I think Bilalwal has joined the politics too early.
He could have spent another 5 years to improve and win hearts by working for the welfare of the people.
Politically it'll be a longer route for him to win if PTI does well now. Any how it'll be good experience for him personally but if he was going to be real loyal to the country, he needed those hard lessons from the field instead of using good speech.

Mr Asif All Zardari tried his level best to be faithful and honest to the country and cause.
He was in jail for 10 years brutally tortured while his family suffering in exile but later almighty King Musharaf saluted him to the post of president.
Despite endless efforts of ruling Ajanta, Bhuttos and their followers can't be wiped out. Bhuttosim is phenomena.
Despite his tender and young age Bilawal wasn't emotional.he didn't uttered any bizzare language.
Khan on the other hand offered containers, food supply to Maulana and shehbaz Sharif for sit in.don't you agree he was off the track, disoriented and out of focus.
At a age of 65 he shouldn't be emotional like Murad saeed or other street kids.

It can be just said a well delivered, well rehearsed and well versed speech. Politician is judged by the content of governance not by content of speeches. Governance done by his party (whose chairman is Bilawal for atleast 10 years) is in front of all.

His Mother would be proud of Him and she herself could pat her shoulders. Apart of being a politician she raised her children well and set the priority to give them the best training and Education and it looks like they did well too .

No one questioning what got this boy the party's chairmanship? What are his contributions for Pakistan. Bhutto/Zardari dynasty has taken over the party that was once a grassroots movement for the masses.
Speeches are fine, but look at the nightmare that they have turned Sindh into. Even Larkana is in shambles. Still we fall for this pathetic rhetoric. PPP workers must turn against this dismal leadership and take back the party to its original roots.

Pakistan next PM, if he can get rid of the Zaradari baggage. Stand out maiden speech, full of maturity and grace; he said all things that should have been said by Imran Khan. Imran's speech by contrast was mediocre and uninspiring. It was deja vu moment as if the 22nd PM was back on his favourite container! Imran Khan is now the PM and needs to behave act like one.

He can talk the talk, but can he walk the walk? He has no merit whatsoever except being Zardaris son. Besides, his father has made sure ppp is a province based party, not a national party anymore. If pti delivers, who knows, maybe they even can make government in Sindh. Otherwise ppp have to work really hard.

Everyone was impressed by the speech of Mr. Bilawal Zhardai Bhutto. He delivered a very mature and balanced speech in the National Assembly, which left no space for criticism even by his opponents. Well done Mr. Bilawal and now try to reinvigorate your own party and play a most crucial role in Pakistani politics.

While it's easy to advise Imran on keeping cool from the confines of my armchair, but then this was his moment, his hour, his day and one can only lament on what could have been!
But Imran's core message was and is clear. We will not spare the corrupt. We will bring the looted money back. We will not give any NRO to the corrupt!
Shahbaz and PMLN set a shameful standard which put even their already gutter values to shame. First by going back on their agreement to allow Imran to speak after 15 minutes of agitating and then to the garbage of his own speech.
Shahbaz and his cohorts represent a degenerate and corrupt status quo, breathing their last and hence the anger and desperation.
Bilawal! I'd be petty not to admit that it was a very good speech!
But before we go gaga over his fine words and his cool and calm delivery, lets not forget that Bilawal has no trophies on the wall.

He's but a mere twenty something, silver spooned, pole vaulted privileged young man who hasn't done a day's work in his life. Has no achievements to his credit. Has no struggles. No experience.
So what does he have?
A biological accident of birth, a political legacy in which he has ZERO contribution except being to "The Manor Born", a nice face, a decent education, cultured social graces, fluent English, access to his father's seemingly unlimited looted and plundered wealth, the best speech tutors and speech writers money can buy, and then propped up to deliver a speech.

There are tens of millions of kids like him, privileged and underprivileged, who can deliver a similar speech or better if given the same opportunity and wealth! Watch any Hollywood movie of highly effective and moving High School speeches by any Valedictorian and you know what I'm talking about.
And that is our tragedy, as we forget the real things that matter but go all warm and fuzzy and mushy over his speech!
This is nothing personal about or against Bilawal.
I'm sure personally he's a most charming, personable and nice person. But so are hundreds of millions of others. But that doesnt make him or them potential leaders for Pakistan.

@shahid .No big deal. The children of Pakistanis studying in UK, and USA, speaks english well, so is Bilawal doing. Ironically our House ( Assembly) always had members who got impressed by English speaking fellow members, since they have little know how of english. Looking at TV Anchors, Fareed Zakaria (CNN) Karan Thapar ( Indian Anchor) Moeed Pirzada (Pak) or our former Senator Javed Jabbar,
it’s enjoyable and informative to view their narrative. But the object of Assembly and its members is to honestly deliver, and not to play gimmicks in english, and serve themselves instead the people. Again great expectations from legislators for good governance, and betterment, instead just raising nation’s debt, and their own personal bank accounts. No matter you speak good english or bad, it’s OK, just deliver.

Words can't erase the history of failures to deliver. Action speaks louder then word plus they are elected from sind so was that rigged too? They need accept the mandate and their party need to deliver in sind. Biggest of all if he is asking for level playing field than they should start by abolishing quota system in sind and focus on development in sind urban and rural alike. Empty promises are not enough, ball is in his court.

Nawaz and benazir knew how to make speeches as well. Bilawal needs to show sincere actions that are for Pakistan and shed the feudal and corrupt mentality once and for all. This feudalism has been a cancer. He needs to work with PTI to improve interior Sindh and take off the shackles of feudal slavery.

The speech was written by a professional writer and he was Achilles overseas as he comes from a wealthy family, I am not impressed at all as the entire part consists of corrupt crooks including his father, he would prove to be the same so don’t get impressed because he delivered the speech in English with no accent..

@Pakistan Lover Brother I agree with you 100%. I live in Interior Sindh brother it's down right horrible conditions, how badly humanity is suffering here, I don't have word to describe. We can't vote with out fear of political victimization by Zardari mafia. Police is used many times in fake encounter killings. Hospitals are infection incubator factories, it's pathetic and one must pray not to get sick. Schools are horrible with no teachers who get paid but still don't show up and many place in Sindh people don't know how to keep basic human hygiene. I world with NGO with my free time to help my people brother. I cry sometime in pain and I'm a grown man, this is how pathetic Zardari family has played with our Sindhu Dharti, This man Bilawal Zardari is a mini Zardari his father is planting on us. I pray to Almighty that we get rid of this mafia from Sindh and may we this humanity suffering in Sindh end, every aspect of social media is destroyed.
