GUJRANWALA, June 8: A stage actress and a producer were killed while three others sustained injuries in a road accident here on Wednesday on GT Road. Reports said producer Ashfaq Ahmad was on his way to Gujranwala from Faisalabad along with a director and other members by a wagon. Near Kamoki their vehicle collided with a truck as a result of which Ashfaq and actress Rania of Kharadan Bazaar died on the spot while director Naeem, Mehsan and Iisha Khan were injured. Police are investigating.

NO SALARIES: Teachers of the Government Girls High School, Gunaur Wahando, have not been disbursed their salaries for the last five months owing to a long leave of the headmistress.

Expressing their resentment at a meeting held here on Wednesday, the teaching staff sent a memorandum to the education department highups for early payment of their salaries.

They said the education department had neither deputed the school head after the headmistress went on an ex-Pakistan leave for one year nor made alternative arrangements for disbursing salaries of teachers.

They demanded the immediate payment of their dues as they were facing financial crunch.

When contacted, the executive district officer (education) was not available in his office for comments.

DOWRY CHEQUES: Punjab Auqaf Minister Sahibzada Saeedul Hassan Shah distributed dowry cheques among girls of destitute families through a draw here on Wednesday.

Divisional dowry committee chairperson MPA Laila Muqqadis and other office-bearers were also present on the occasion.
