ISLAMABAD, June 8: Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao on Wednesday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to depute senior officials at airports to check illegal immigration. Presiding over a meeting at the FIA headquarters, the minister directed the agency to remove all constables deployed on the immigration desk at the airports.

“All counters should be manned by high officials having the rank of assistant sub-inspectors and above so that passengers can be dealt with in a proper way,” he said.

The minister said effective monitoring system to curb crime should be well in place and the special investigation group in the FIA be more effective to come up to the challenges of counter terrorism.

Mr Sherpao expressed dissatisfaction over slow process of disposal of cases.
