ISLAMABAD: A woman who died after falling from a multi-storey building is believed to have been murdered, police said on Tuesday.

In response to a complaint lodged by the deceased’s father, a murder case has been registered against four people. The incident took place at a flat owned by a foreigner and rented out to a local.

A friend of the tenant arranged a party at the flat and invited guests to the event on Aug 12, a senior police officer told Dawn.

A group of dancers was also in attendance, including the victim, he added.

The event came to an end early the next morning when the woman went out and was later found to have fallen from the flat and critically injured. Most of the guests and the host had left the flat while some present there took the injured to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Those who had taken the woman to the hospital went away leaving her there and also took away her belongings, including a mobile phone, the officer stated.

The police later reached the flat and found evidence destroyed which might have helped the investigators in establishing the circumstances under which she had fallen, the officer said.

The investigators obtained CCTV footage and mobile phone records and examined them.

As a result, the victim’s mobile phone was traced outside the capital with the police suspicion falling on four people.

The police rounded up the four suspects, including a woman, for interrogation.

Another police officer said the arrested woman, a friend of the deceased, told investigators that the victim had lived in the capital for over eight years.

She said she had provided the deceased accommodation and both were professional dancers.

She said that early on August 13 the woman went out of the flat to attend a call on her mobile phone and did not return.

Later, she was found injured and lying on the ground floor, she told the investigators.
